Breastfeeding Support

Memorial Hospital is supportive of your choice to breastfeed, and it is our goal to ensure that you and your baby have a head start in experiencing the natural benefits breastfeeding provides for both mother and baby. We are here to help you make feeding your baby a fulfilling and positive experience.

Lactation Services

Rest assured that a mother's milk has all the nutrition needed to keep a baby healthy, and only very rarely is there a medical or physical reason that a woman cannot breastfeed her baby.

Our on-site Certified Lactation Counselors are ready to help answer your questions and assist with initiating breastfeeding.  Our counselors give families practical techniques and support when learning how to express milk directly from the breast or into a bottle using a breast pump.  Our counselors also provide support and advice for any issues you may experience, including engorgement, sore nipples, difficulties with latch, and promoting ample milk production.

BreastFeeding Education

To give you the tools needed to prepare for your breastfeeding journey, we offer "The Golden Hour & Breastfeeding Basics" class (see description below).  This is a two hour session that is included in our Childbirth Education Classes. Breastfeeding is the last of the  three weekly class sessions which are held on a regular basis. You may also join this class session soley without attending the other two - it's up to you, based on your need!

CURRENT CHILDBIRTH CLASS SCHEDULE:

Next Class TBD. Please call 402-694-8249 or email motherbaby@mchiaurora.org.

All classes are held in the Conference Room at Memorial Hospital, 1423 7th Street, Aurora.

The Golden Hour & Breastfeeding Basics

Learn about the importance of the Golden Hour immediately after the delivery of your baby. Watch an informational video guiding you through each stage of this magical and natural experience. Learn why incorporating the Golden Hour will help your breastfeeding journey in the long run, as well as getting your baby off to the best possible start.  We will then cover the basics of breastfeeding, how to know if your baby is getting enough milk, and how to achieve a painless latch. Our team of trained nurses and lactation counselors are here to make sure you find success in your breastfeeding journey. This class offers a great opportunity in showing you where to start and why breastfeeding is so important!
