Better Breathers Club at Memorial Hospital

Published on July 22, 2021

Memorial Community Health is now offering a Better Breathers Club support group at Memorial Hospital in Aurora. A program of the American Lung Association, Better Breathers Clubs are regularly scheduled, in-person support groups for individuals with chronic lung disease such as COPD, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer.

"We are excited to be a resource for individuals who have lung disease," commented Jennifer Ryser, Registered Respiratory Therapist at MCHI and facilitator of Memorial Hospital's Better Breathers Club. "The Better Breather Club group meetings will be educational and discuss ways to better cope with lung disease. In addition, meetings provide the opportunity for individuals to connect and gain the support of others in similar situations."

Better Breathers Club meetings feature education on a wide range of topics, which may include:

• How COPD affects the lungs
• Breathing techniques
• Exercise and healthy eating
• Medications and other treatment options
• Medical tests, equipment and procedures
• Supplemental oxygen
• Navigating the healthcare system
• Community resources

Memorial Hospital's Better Breathers Club support group is free and open to individuals with lung disease as well as their family and caregivers. Meetings will be held every other month on the second Mnoday, with the first meeting scheduled for Monday, August 9th from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the Memorial Hospital Conference Room.
