Homemade Facemasks

Published on April 8, 2020

We have been closely following the evolving recommendations for use of cloth facemasks. With the CDC's recent recommendation for everyone to wear a facemask in public to help slow the spread of COVID-19, we support their recommendation and will also now be accepting donations of cloth masks for our healthcare workers should our supplies become depleted.

While there are many great patterns available, we've identified a pattern that has a good fit around the mouth and nose as well as a pocket for inserting a disposable "filter", such as a tissue or coffee filter.

For donations to MCHI for our healthcare workers, this pattern – or anything like this pattern -- would be optimal. There are also similar patterns where a washable "filter" material is sewn in between the inner and outer layer. These would work well, too. We will accept any donation. If you would like to make a donation to MCHI, please contact ReeAnn Regier at rregier@mchiaurora.org or call 402-694-8220.

In addition, you can find the the CDC's latest information and guidance on wearing cloth facemasks in public at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html

Thank you to each and every one of you for what you're doing to help stop the spread of COVID-19!
