Pulmonary Rehabilitation

You are here: Home / Services / Hospital Services / Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation helps to improve the well-being of individuals who experience lung conditions, such as:

  • COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
  • Chronic Bronchitis
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Sarcoidosis
  • Pulmonary Hypertension
  • Pulmonary Fibrosis
  • Interstitial lung disease
  • Lung cancer and lung cancer surgery
  • Lung volume reduction surgery before and after lung transplantation

Memorial Hospital’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation program includes instruction on rehabilitative exercises and education about each patient’s individual lung disease or condition. This program may help patieints participate in activities with less shortness of breath, as well as teach patients how to “live” better with their lung condition.

While Pulmonary Rehabilitation cannot cure lung disease, it can be of great benefit and patients may notice a decrease in shortness of breath and the ability to breathe with less effort.  Even if an individual has advanced lung disease, he or she can still benefit from Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

To receive Pulmonary Rehabilitation, patients must be referred to our program by their primary care physician or another qualified health care professional.

Pulmonary Rehab is designed to:

  • Decrease symptoms
  • Allow individuals to function better in daily life
  • Increase the ability to exercise
  • Help patients understand and better manage their condition
  • Educate patients on the importance of diet, nutrition, weight management and smoking cessation
